What's New
This is the initial release of USA Class, OPM's AI-assisted federal position classification tool. This release delivers the complete end-to-end PD drafting workflow for CSO Classifiers, covering all four phases from Position Details through PD Builder.
What Launched
Position Details
Managers initiate a classification request by providing basic position context — supervisory level, whether an existing PD is available, and answers to plain-language prompts about the position's purpose, key tasks, and required expertise.
Major Duties
AI generates an initial set of duty title suggestions based on position context. Classifiers and Managers can review, edit, and finalize duty titles and statements, assign time percentages, and submit for Classifier approval before proceeding to Factor Levels.
Factor Levels
All nine FES factor pages are available, each with AI-generated statements and proficiency sliders for adjusting content to the appropriate level. Factor 1 generates skill and knowledge content informed by position context. Factors 2–9 generate narrative statements with subfactor-level controls. The completed factor level document can be previewed and exported.
PD Builder
Classifiers finalize the Position Description by completing the Overview (agency, grade, official title), Introduction, References, and Final Review before exporting a completed PD as a .docx file.
Request Manager
All classification requests are tracked in a central Request Manager with unique Request IDs, filtering, sorting, and a quick preview panel for request details.
Additional Improvements (Releases 1.0.1–1.0.2)
- Factor 1 now displays how your selections influence AI-generated content for Factors 2–9
- Additional FES series added to the Target Series dropdown
- Terminology standardized throughout the app — "Manager" replaces "Hiring Manager"
- Rules of Behavior updated on the login and sign-in screens
- Request status correctly reflects "Factor Levels: In Progress" after Major Duties are approved
